Western Quarterly Meeting Saturday, July 18
En plein air Art Exhibit at London Britain Meetinghouse
On Sunday, August 20th, from 1:00–4:00 PM (rain or shine), a dozen or so local artists will show their paintings of local scenes.
En plein air is a French expression which means “in the open air” and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors and working in the natural light.
It is an annual event that began five years ago when several plein air painters from the University of Delaware’s Academy of Life Long Learning decided to create a venue in which they could view each other’s work. The event is
neither juried nor a sale—it is simply to enjoy art. Come out and enjoy the meetinghouse grounds, the art work, and light refreshments. Contact Ruth Thompson for questions at 610-486-0760.
Annual Picnic by Fallowfield Friends at The Ramsay Homestead!
Fallowfield Friends Meeting extends an invitation to all Friends from the Western Quarter to the Ramsay Annual Picnic on Sunday, July 19th at 4:00 PM at the Ramsay home and gardens located at 2460 Strasburg Road, Coatesville.
Please bring a potluck dish. Contact Chet or Jean Ramsay at 610-384-0514 for additional information or directions.
DARIA – World Music for Children
Also at the Anson B. Nixon Park on Saturday, July 25th from 1:00–2:00 PM.
Kennett Friends Meeting’s Sara Bowers Fund was used to offset the cost of bringing Daria Marmaluk-Hajioannou to
the area for a free concert. She has traveled the globe, learning, sharing, and making music while building communities
and encouraging a new view of hope and peace for all the world’s children.
Big G and The Cool Cats Swing Band
Hadley Memorial Program – Last Event of the Season!
Free event on Friday, July 17th at Anson B. Nixon Park in Kennett Borough from 7:30–9:30 PM (raindate is Sunday, July 19th). Big G and The Cool Cats Swing Band covers a wide range of music for all generations from Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington to Earth, Wind and Fire, and Brian Setzer. This group of musicians performs all over the tri-state area including Sunnybrook, the largest dance hall east of Chicago.
Tubing on The Brandywine
This year Western Quarter will invite Concord Quarter Youth and their families to join in on this annual summer event that is scheduled for Sunday, July 26th from 12:00–4:00 PM.
Location will be at the home of Mary Etta Clendenin, 1005 Brandywine Creek Road, Coatesville 19320. Bring a potluck to share! Inner tubes and drinks will be provided.
